The four levers that decide your season
Most of your season is decided in one night. Good drafters get more points-per-pick than the field.
How we measure it: We grade every pick A–D vs. what was still on the board.
Every week you choose who starts. Leaving points on your bench is the most common way good teams lose.
How we measure it: We measure your “manager efficiency” — actual vs. your optimal lineup.
You can score the 2nd-most points in your league and still lose if you drew the high scorer that week.
How we measure it: We compute expected wins (how many you “should” have won) vs. your actual record.
Not all positions are equal. Some have a steep talent cliff; others are flat — which is what really drives draft order.
How we measure it: We chart the real points-per-rank dropoff at every position.
Positional scarcity, in real numbers
The last 3 seasons, points-per-game: the best at each position vs. the last reliable starter in a 12-team league. The bigger the drop, the earlier you draft it.
This is why drafts tend to open with RBs and WRs and why “wait on QB” is conventional wisdom — the elite QB is barely better per week than a mid-tier one you can grab rounds later.
Luck vs. skill — why your record can lie
Two ideas separate good managers from lucky ones:
- Expected wins — each week, how many of the other teams would you have beaten with your score? Sum that up and you get the record you “earned,” independent of who you happened to play. A 5-8 team that earned 8 wins was unlucky, not bad.
- Manager efficiency — your actual points ÷ the most you could have scored with the roster you owned. An 85% manager left 15% of their points on the bench. Win your start/sit calls and you bank points the schedule can't take away.
